University of Surrey

The University of Surrey is an international university known for its focus in excellence in both teaching and research. Located in Guildford, Surrey, UoS is, according to a recent survey carried out by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) in the UK, the number one university in the UK for graduate employment.

UoS undertakes research in several areas and brings benefits to both industry and the academia. Besides the research taking place in the main university campus, UoS also owns and runs the Surrey Research Park, a major centre of research in the UK which provides facilities for 125 companies.

According to the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) carried out in 2008, 88% of the UoS’s research activity was rated as “world-class”.

Centre for Process and Information Systems Engineering (PRISE)
The Centre for Process and Information Systems Engineering (PRISE) is part of the Division of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering (CCE) of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences (FEPS). PRISE homes 6 MSc (Master of Science) programmes in the area of Process, Business, Renewable Energy and Information Systems Engineering. Strong research activities capitalise on expertise gained through numerous research projects with 6 European and national project still active and cover fundamental and multidisciplinary areas such as:
• Optimisation and multiscale modelling;
• Knowledge engineering and semantic web technologies;
• Operation support to industrial processes such as Industrial Symbiosis and Supply Chain in general;
• Support to the process of Biorefining;
• Asssessment of natural resources in general and feedstock and biomass in particular;
• Transfer of knowledge and technology to small and medium enterprises.

PRISE currently involves 4 academic staff, 3 Research Fellows/Associates and 7 PhD students.
